Nemiki
Puebla, Mexico
Mexican indie pixel-art game where playing regenerates the axolotl habitat.
Problem
Trash and pollution have damaged the habitat of the axolotl and of many other species. Bringing more young people closer to nature and funding the conservation of that forest are still two separate tasks.
Solution
Nemiki is a Mexican indie pixel-art game, still in development, where playing is regenerating. You explore a wounded world, bring life back to the water and the forest, and accompany the axolotls back to their habitat. The forest in the game is real: it is in Puebla, and part of the revenue funds its restoration. They co-create it with Villa Atl, which manages that forest with young people, and with Xolokali, the refuge where axolotls reproduce and are studied. Most of the revenue goes to that work.
